Bridge Assessments

  • Concrete Cover Assessments on new structures
  • Concrete condition assessments
  • ASCII output files for integration with spreadsheets and other software programs
  • Spreadsheet view of rebar data
  • Data that accommodates and adjusts for bridge skew angle

Affordable and Easy

The system provides an effective tool for quickly determining the condition of aging bridge decks, parking structures, balconies, etc. Bridge scan is also a valuable tool for new construction or repair work to validate the overall quality of repair or construction.

The system provides our clients with an effective tool for quickly determining the condition of aging bridge decks, as well as new construction or repair work.

The technology has been successfully used on many bridge and tunnel projects nation wide. Some of the DOT's mandate that use of GPR system to determine contractors pay factors.

Benefits

  • Identify rebar locations and depth
  • Obtain overlay thickness
  • Determine concrete cover depth
  • Locates areas of concrete deterioration

This system is an effective tool for quickly determining the condition of ageing bridge decks as well as new construction or repair. The process requires no stripping of asphalt and is faster than convention method of sounding.

Areas of the bridge deck exhibiting weak reflection amplitude values are typically indicative of deterioration. These weaker reflections can be due to several factors, including elevated chloride content, concrete degradation or corrosion of the rebar, which all attenuate the radar signal (see Figure 5).

Using our contour mapping program the X, Y, and reflection amplitude data for each rebar location were imported and used to create a color coded contour map of the bridge deck. Weaker rebar reflections were mapped as “hotter” colors to indicate the areas of bridge deck suspected of greater deterioration.
